I don’t usually shoot bikes, but more and more they are growing on me. While I don’t think I’ll ever ride, the craft is something that I completely respect and admire. I had the pleasure of running into Dar Holdsworth of Brass Balls Cycles on the way to SEMA and shared the 1.5 Mile walk to the convention center from our hotel. We had a really nice conversation and it is conversations like the one that Dar and I had that reinforce why I am so passionate about covering the Automotive industry (I loop anything with wheels in that category). Though we probably wouldn’t run across each other in our normal lives, because of our passion for all things automotive we chatted as friends.
As I said I don’t shoot motorcycles often, but there are so many killer bikes around nowadays that I have been shooting more of them lately. I had taken shots of Dar’s bike that he had in the Rousseau Toolboxes booth before meeting Dar and was drawn in by the unique design. The Rocketeer F3 has tons of crazy details, once you get in there and start to look around you can see the amazing work that Brass Balls Cycles is known for. The fenders and gas tank carved from solid billet, a Beringer Hub Brake system and tons of other touches coalesce to form a one-of-a-kind bike that even causes a car guy to stop and admire the craftsmanship. I hope to cross paths with Dar and Brass Balls Cycles again in the future, but if I don’t, I consider myself fortunate to meet the man and the machine at SEMA 2014.
